Your horse wears a headcollar every day: when you bring him in from the field, at the farrier and during grooming. Here you will find headcollars for horses and ponies in sizes XS to XL, lead ropes, a lead with chain and holders to hang everything up neatly.
Three headcollar ranges side by side
The Excellent headcollars are made of densely woven nylon and all three have a clip buckle on the noseband and headpiece, so you can put them on and take them off without pulling the buckle over the ears. The difference is in the extras:
| Range | Clip buckle | Reflective | Fleece on noseband and cheekpieces |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | yes | no | no |
| Premium | yes | yes | no |
| Superior | yes | yes | yes |
Reflective details help when you walk to the field in the dark in winter. Fleece makes the noseband and cheekpieces softer on the inside.
The right size and fit
Choose the size based on the head, not just on the breed. A well-fitting headcollar has a noseband that sits well below the cheekbone and that you can fit two fingers under. The headpiece and noseband are adjustable, so you can still fine-tune between two sizes.
Ropes, leads and hanging
The Exclusive Reflective lead rope is 2 metres long, has a 360-degree swivel trigger clip and comes in five colours that match the headcollars. The 250 cm lead with chain gives more control when leading, but requires experience. For the stable, there are plastic and metal headcollar holders, a hanging hook for headcollar and bridle and a sorting ring.
Bothered by flies in the field? If you want headcollar and fly protection in one, choose the headcollar with built-in fly mask (three sizes); you will find more choice in fly masks.
Points to note
A nylon headcollar does not break easily. Many owners therefore take the headcollar off when the horse is left unattended in the field or stable, because it can get caught on something. Check stitching and buckles regularly.
Rugs and fly protection are in headcollars, rugs and fly masks; for small horses there is a separate pony page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if the headcollar fits well?
You can fit two fingers under the noseband, and it sits well below the cheekbone. If the headpiece is on the last hole, one size smaller or larger is often better.
What is the difference between a lead rope and a lead with chain?
A lead rope is a separate rope with a trigger clip for leading and tying up. The lead with chain gives more influence and is intended for those who are experienced with it.
Do the lead ropes fit every headcollar?
The trigger clip fits the ring of virtually any headcollar. The colours are matched to the Excellent headcollars.
