The energiser and the tape get the attention, but a fence stands or falls with the small parts: the connector that does not spark, the earth rod that makes good contact, the gate handle you can unhook with one hand. Those parts are all here, from ZoneGuard, Gobel and Kerbl.

What you use for what

  • Checking: testers such as the Gobel tester with LED display and the ZoneGuard Multilight with six levels. More information in fence testers and earthing.
  • Earthing and connecting: a 1 m galvanised earth rod with wire clamp, 10 or 50 m copper earth cable and connecting leads with crocodile clips or heart-shaped clips.
  • Power: 9V batteries from ZoneGuard (55 and 130 Ah) and Gobel Durobat (120 and 175 Ah) for battery energisers.
  • Joining: tape connectors for 20, 40 and 60 mm, rope connectors, Gripple wire joiners and connecting leads.
  • Tensioning: wire tensioners in size M and L, a ratchet tensioner, a multi-purpose tensioner and a tape tensioner with insulator.
  • Gateways: elastic gate handles, tape gate handles and spring gate handles; all together in gate handles.
  • Putting up and taking down: reels for tape and wire, a ground auger, staples, post caps and a stability kit.
  • Safety: warning signs and an on/off switch to isolate a section of fence.

Small parts, big effect

Most faults are not caused by the energiser but by a poor connection, a rusted earth rod or a leaking gateway. A connector of the right size keeps the contact between two lengths of tape tight, so there are no sparks slowly burning through the conductors. A switch in the line saves a lot of effort when you want to mow or repair part of the field without turning off the whole fence.

Note: battery and energiser

Before choosing a battery, check your energiser's manual for the voltage and connection it needs. The batteries here are 9V; an energiser that runs on a 12V battery needs a different power supply. The energisers themselves are in electric fence energisers.

The rest of the fence

If the part goes directly on the post, also look at insulators and fence posts. Tape and rope are in conductors, netting in electric fence netting. The overview: field fencing.

Frequently asked questions

Why a warning sign?
A sign makes it clear to passers-by that the fence is live. Hang signs where they can be seen along roads and paths, especially where children pass.

Which connector do I need?
Choose a connector that matches the width of your tape or the thickness of your rope or wire. A connector that is too large does not clamp properly and gives poor contact.

What is a reel for?
With a reel, you wind tape or wire on and off neatly. That is handy if you regularly re-divide a field or take down a temporary fence.
