Sheep and goats place different demands on a net. Sheep usually stay neatly inside a 90 cm net, as long as it carries enough voltage. Goats climb, jump and look for weak spots, so for them you more often choose a taller net and sturdier posts.

Which model for which animal?

  • Euro-Netz Universal 80 cm: a lower net for calm sheep or as an internal divider within a larger plot.
  • Euro-Netz divider 80 cm: designed to split a field into sections.
  • Euro-Netz 90 cm and Net Excellent 90 cm: the usual height for sheep with lambs.
  • Euro-Netz Combi 90 and 106 cm: stiffer vertical struts, so the net stays taut, even when it stands in the same place for a while.
  • Euro-Netz 106 cm double spike: for goats and breeds that like to jump.
  • Euro-Netz Wolf Jumbo 120 and 145 cm: extra tall, with double-spike posts, for those who want higher fencing.

Goats ask more

Goats put their front feet on a net to look over it, and a sagging net invites them to try. So keep the net taut, add extra support posts on bends and check the voltage more often. Horned goats can get their horns caught in the meshes; then check the net extra carefully, especially just after putting it up.

Less well known: fleece and voltage

Wool insulates. A sheep with a full fleece feels less of a shock on its back than shortly after shearing. The bottom lines, where the animals touch with their head and nose, are therefore important: keep them clear of grass. Connect the net to a powerful energiser, for example from the electric fence energisers, and keep spare posts and connectors from the accessories to hand. All netting is under electric fence netting; if you also have chickens, see poultry netting.

Frequently asked questions

Is 90 cm high enough for goats?
For calm goats sometimes, but many keepers choose 106 cm or higher because goats like to jump and climb.

What is the difference between Euro-Netz and Euro-Netz Combi?
Combi has stiffer vertical struts, so the net sags less between the posts.

Can I also use sheep netting for lambs?
Yes, the meshes at the bottom are smaller than at the top. Do check that very young lambs cannot crawl through.
