Electric fence netting is a portable fence with the posts already built in: unroll it, push the posts into the ground, connect it to the energiser and you are done. It is mainly used for sheep, goats and poultry, which too easily slip through single wires. Most of the netting here is from Euro-Netz, supplemented by an unbranded sheep net and rabbit net.
Choosing the height
| Height | In the range | Often used for |
|---|---|---|
| 65 cm | Rabbit net, single spike | Rabbits and other small animals |
| 80–90 cm | Euro-Netz Universal, divider, standard and Combi; Net Excellent | Sheep and lambs |
| 106–112 cm | Euro-Netz and Combi 106 cm, 112 cm poultry net | Goats, breeds that like to jump, poultry |
| 120–145 cm | Euro-Netz Wolf Jumbo | Extra-high fencing, for example as protection against predators |
Single or double spike?
With single-spike netting, each post has one metal spike at the bottom. It pushes easily into soft ground and is light to carry. Double-spike posts have two spikes and stand more firmly in loose or very hard ground, and are less likely to fall over when an animal pushes against them. The Euro-Netz Combi versions also have stiffer vertical struts, so the net sags less between the posts.

- Poultry netting: small meshes at the bottom, for chickens, ducks and geese.

Points to note
Netting has many horizontal conductors close to the ground, so it quickly touches vegetation. That costs voltage, so choose an energiser with power to spare and mow the strip under the net short before putting it up. Never leave a net that is not live: animals, and especially horned lambs, can get tangled. Spare posts of 90, 106 and 112 cm replace a broken post; the Twist Butler is a crank-operated winder for nets up to 125 cm high. Energisers are in electric fence energisers, other supplies in fencing accessories. Back to field fencing.
Frequently asked questions
Can netting be used without power?
Electric netting is made to be live. Without power, it will not keep most animals in, and the risk of them getting tangled is higher.
How do I connect several nets together?
The nets have connectors at the ends for joining them. Make sure the conductors make good contact, so the current flows through all the nets.
What do I do with a broken post?
Replace it with a spare post of the same height. That way you do not have to replace the whole net.
