An electric fence gate handle is an insulated handle for opening and closing a gateway in your fence while the power stays on. You hook it onto a hook or anchor insulator; as long as it is closed, the current flows on to the rest of the field.
Four types of gateway
- Single handle with spring: the ZoneGuard gate handle with spring (25 mm) and the handle with hooks and spring (5 cm) tension a wire or rope across a short opening.
- Tape gate handle: for 40 mm tape, so the gateway is just as visible as the rest of your horse field. With the stainless steel gate handle connector, you fix the tape to the handle.
- Elastic gate set: a stretchy conductive elastic with handle, in 3.2 and 4.5 m. It stays taut without pulling too hard.
- Complete 6 m tape set: for a wide gateway, for example for a tractor or mower.

How to choose
First measure the width of the opening. For a walk-through gateway of about three metres, a single handle or a 3.2 m elastic set is enough; for a wide entrance, take the 4.5 m set or the 6 m tape set. If you use tape in the rest of the field, preferably choose tape for the gateway too, so horses keep seeing the boundary clearly.
Power beyond the gateway
When the gateway is open, the power drops out beyond the handle. If you want the fence on the other side to stay live, run an insulated cable under the gateway to the other side. Connectors and other parts are in fencing accessories; to check that the power still arrives beyond the gateway, use one of the fence testers. You will find the conductor itself in tape, rope and wire.
