A poo picker is a scoop with a matching rake or fork on a long handle, used to pick up droppings from the paddock or stable standing upright, without bending. The sets are here in black, orange and red, together with other everyday stable tools: a complete manure fork with 115 cm handle, Mustang aluminium shovels in three blade widths, a Bürsten Walter water broom, a plastic feed rake and separate handles in wood and aluminium.
Which tool for which job?
| Job | Tool |
|---|---|
| Picking up droppings in paddock or field | Poo picker set |
| Mucking out a stable, sifting bedding | Manure fork |
| Shovelling sawdust, pellets or feed | Aluminium shovel |
| Wet floor, sweeping away water | Water broom |
| Pushing forage up to the feed barrier | Feed rake |
What to look for
Weight: aluminium and plastic are light and do not rust, which makes a difference if you do several stables every day. Blade width: a narrower shovel is handy in corners and with heavy material, a wider shovel moves light material such as sawdust faster. Handle: handles come in different lengths and thicknesses, from wood with a 24 to 28 mm diameter to 150 cm aluminium and a short handle with D-grip. Always check that the diameter fits the socket of your shovel, broom or floor squeegee. A longer handle is pleasant for tall people; a D-grip gives grip for short, heavy shovelling.
Additional
A floor squeegee or manure scraper for clearing large floors is in manure scrapers and floor squeegees. For removing small amounts of manure or water, there are buckets and tubs, such as the flexible V-Trug. The full range of tools is in brooms, shovels and rakes and everything for the yard under stable and yard.
