You buy syringes and needles for cattle by volume, connection and needle size. This collection contains only the equipment: disposable syringes, reusable syringes, automatic guns and needles. The products you administer with them, such as vaccines, you get through your vet.

Which syringe for which job

  • Disposable syringes from 2 to 50 ml, two- or three-part, including Génia Dispoject. Three-part syringes have a rubber plunger that runs more smoothly.
  • Nylon syringes from 5 to 50 ml, with screw or Luer lock connection, to clean and reuse.
  • Automatic syringes such as the HSW Eco-Matic (1, 2 or 5 ml) and the Roux-Revolver (30 or 50 cc) from Henke-Sass Wolf. They refill themselves from a bottle, handy when you treat a group of animals one after another.
  • Accessories: a vented draw-off needle for emptying a bottle, a dosing set with cap and syringe, and a pour-on gun for 2.5-litre packs.

Reading needle sizes

A needle is described by length and thickness, for example 25 x 1.6 mm or 16G x 1 inch. The higher the G number, the thinner the needle. In this range, the Génia Genalu needles run from 16 to 50 mm long and from 18G to 14G thick; the Hypojet needles are 60 and 80 mm long. Which length and thickness you need depends on the product, the age of the animal and the method of administration. Take that size from your vet's advice or the package leaflet.

Luer lock or screw thread

With Luer lock, you twist the needle onto the syringe, so it does not shoot off with a restless animal. When ordering needles, check that the connection fits your syringe.

Hygiene

Use clean needles and change them regularly, especially between groups of animals. Put used needles in a sharps container and not in household waste.

For dosing by mouth, see drenching; boluses and bolus guns are separate. Back to everything for cattle or on to udder care.

Frequently asked questions

What does 16G mean on a needle?
The G stands for gauge, a measure of thickness. The higher the number, the thinner the needle: 18G is thinner than 14G.

Can I reuse a nylon syringe?
Yes, nylon syringes are designed to be cleaned and reused. Disposable syringes are used once.

Do you also sell vaccines or injectable products?
No. Here you will only find syringes and needles; products go through your vet.
