You choose a feed bucket for your horse by capacity and shape: a 7-litre bucket with handle for a portion of hard feed, a 15-litre bucket with a flat side that hangs flush against the wall or door, or a 14 or 40 litre flexible tub for feed, water and stable work. Everything in this collection is plastic and available in several colours.

Handy in daily use
The 7-litre bucket comes in ten colours, from burgundy to lime. Give each horse its own colour, and you see at a glance which portion is for whom. The flexible V-Trug tubs give when they are full or when a horse knocks against them, and you squeeze them together a little when emptying. The large 40-litre tub is also useful for soaking sugar beet pulp or carrying straw and manure. For travelling, there is a collapsible bucket from Excellent Horse that fits flat in the trailer.
Note
Do not leave a bucket with a handle unattended in the stable: a horse can catch a hoof in the handle. A flexible tub on the ground is easily knocked over, so do not use it as the only water source. Rinse out buckets with soaked feed after use, because residues quickly turn sour in the warmth.
These buckets belong with stable and field. For fixed feeders, see feeders and troughs, for water drinkers and for hay slow feeders.
Frequently asked questions
Which bucket should I use for soaking sugar beet pulp?
Pulp swells a lot, so allow room: the 15-litre bucket with flat side or a V-Trug tub. The 7-litre models are too small for that.
What is a V-Trug?
A soft plastic tub with two handles. It bends and springs back, which makes it suitable for feed, water and stable work.
Can I hang a bucket on the stable door?
The 15-litre bucket with flat side is made for that, because it lies flat against the door or wall.
