A haynet keeps the hay together, stops it being trampled or soiled and makes your horse take longer over its portion. This collection contains nets from 2.5 to 10 kilos, a net for a complete round bale and rigid solutions such as hay racks and hay pillows.

Which size haynet?

10 kg45 mm or 60/45 mmOvernight, or a larger horse

There is also the Hooinet Paard Classic haynet. With the separate Hay Slow Feeder drawstring, you replace a worn cord.

Hanging it safely

An empty net hangs slack and drops lower than a full one. So hang it so that even when empty the bottom does not come down to hoof height; a horse that gets a hoof or shoe caught in the mesh can injure itself badly. Tie the net to a sturdy ring or hook and not to a loose board. If a net lies on the ground, as with a round bale, take extra care with shod horses.

Net or rack?

A net is light, you can take it to the trailer and it fits in almost any stable. A rack keeps its shape and is easier to fill with large quantities. OK Plast has a 115-litre hay rack, a 300-litre corner model, a 240-litre wall-mounted rack and ring feeders for round bales. The Hay Pillow lies like a bag in the stable or paddock.

If you really want to slow down eating, first read about slow feeders and small meshes. Other parts of stable and field are feed buckets, drinkers and toys for the stable.

Frequently asked questions

How do I fill a haynet without a hassle?
Open the net inside an empty feed bin or large bucket and stuff the hay in. Then pull the drawstring tight and hang it up.

Which mesh size suits my horse?
The smaller the mesh, the longer your horse takes over its hay. If in doubt, start with the larger mesh and switch gradually.

Can a haynet go in the trailer?
Yes, a small 2.5-kilo net is handy for that. Tie it securely and not too low, so it cannot drop during the journey.
