Most of the work in a cow barn revolves around everyday things: restraining, identifying, moving or cleaning an animal. This collection contains the tools for that, from cattle brush and clippers to cow rope, marking spray and disinfection mat.
Grooming and cleaning
There are cattle brushes, including a Vink version with skin conditioner. For clipping there are the Clipster FarmClipper clippers, also in a cordless version for cattle, so you are not tied to a cable. With Excellent Cattle Shampoo you wash your animals before a show or after a muddy spell.
Restraining and leading
- Halters from Excellent in calf, cow and large cow sizes, adjustable.
- Cow ropes in sisal or polypropylene in 210, 240 and 320 cm, and a cow rope halter with head rope.
- Bull rings in brass in 52-54 and 61 mm with screw, and a spring-loaded bull and cow leader.
- Blindfold from Kerbl, to calm a restless animal during a treatment.
- Cow lifter and Vink Koelift with Belly Strap, for a cow that cannot get up by herself, and an anti-splay strap for the hind legs.
Identifying and marking
For ear tags there is the Allflex ear tag applicator with perforating pin and marker pen. Cow collars with number tubes and cow identification bands (Velcro or Quick Strap) make a cow recognisable from a distance, for example when she has been treated. Kerbl Topmarker marking spray in blue, green, red and violet is used for temporary marking.
Barn hygiene
Place Gobel disinfection mats (90 x 60 or 180 x 90 cm) at the entrance of the barn or calf pen. Comforties nitrile gloves in S to XL and stainless steel buckets with a flat side complete the list. With disinfectants, follow the directions for use on the label.
Hooves, udders and calves have their own page: hoof care, udder care and calf rearing. Everything together in everything for cattle.
Frequently asked questions
What length of cow rope do I need?
That depends on your tie stall or standing. The ropes come in 210, 240 and 320 cm; measure the distance from collar to attachment point.
Can I fit ear tags myself?
In the Netherlands, yes: keepers fit the official identification and registration ear tags themselves. Elsewhere, check the rules in your country. Use the applicator that belongs with the type of ear tag; Allflex tags are fitted with the Allflex applicator.
Is a cordless clipper powerful enough for a cow?
The Clipster FarmClipper Akku2 Rund is designed specifically for cattle. Keep the blades sharp and clean for an even result.
