Good calf milk starts with the right temperature and a clean bucket. This collection is about preparing and feeding milk: warmers, a thermometer, a whisk and the feeding equipment the calf drinks from. Milk replacer itself is not here, but colostrum powder from Excellent for the first days is.

Mixing milk without lumps or cold spots

To mix milk, use a 12-litre bucket with measuring scale and a whisk, for example the stainless steel umbrella whisk that also gets through thick colostrum. If you want to bring milk to temperature or keep it there, there are three calf milk warmers: the MTH 160 and the Kerbl Easy Heat and Super Heat, both 2300 watts. A thermometer for milk and water shows you whether the milk is at the temperature stated on the pack of your calf milk replacer.

Which feeding equipment suits your situation

  • One or two calves: a 1 or 2 litre calf feeding bottle with teat, or a 2.5-litre calf bottle. You see exactly how much has been drunk.
  • A row of calves: calf buckets with teat, round or with two flat sides, optionally with lid and mounting plate. A bucket holder with Bucket Guard keeps the bucket in place.
  • Fast and with little spillage: the Shoof Speedy Feeders in 2.5 or 4 litres, with separate caps and teats as spare parts.
  • Learning to eat pellets: the calf pellet bottle with pellet teat and metal holder.

What to watch for in use

Milk warmers run on mains power, so you need a socket near the calf pens. Keep the warmer away from the calves. Clean bottles and buckets after every feed; separately available sealing rings, couplings and teats make it easy to replace worn parts without throwing away the whole bucket.

Back to calf rearing, or see jackets for calves. Only looking for a teat? They are grouped in feeding buckets and teats.
