How to Teach Your Dog to "Pick Up Stuff"

Gather the toys: Place a few toys on the floor next to a basket or box.
Start with retrieving: First, teach your dog to pick up a toy and bring it to you. Use the command "Get" or "Fetch."
Introduce the basket: Hold a treat over the basket and say "Into the basket" as you guide your dog to place the toy inside. Reward immediately when he drops the toy into the basket.
Repeat the process: Have your dog pick up several toys one at a time and reward him for each successful attempt.
Reward only on command: Make sure you only reward your dog when he puts the toy in the basket after you give the command.
Refine the trick: Practice until your dog understands the trick and add variety by placing toys further away.

Use lots of praise: Keep training fun and motivating by rewarding your dog enthusiastically.
