"Climb on Command" is a versatile trick that teaches your dog to climb onto an object like a stool, rock, or bench. It strengthens his agility, confidence, and obedience.
How do you teach your dog to climb on command?
- Introduce the object: First, introduce your dog to the object. Let him sniff it and reward him for calm behavior near it.
- Use a treat: Hold a treat above the object and encourage your dog to place their front paws on it. Reward them for this.
- Give the command: Say "Climb" or "Up" as you guide him to stand on the object with all his paws. Use a marker signal like "Yes" once he's fully on the object.
- Increase the challenge: Practice with different objects, such as a larger rock or a wider stool, once he is comfortable.
- Refine the behavior: Allow your dog to climb onto the object independently using only a verbal cue or hand signal.

- Start Low: Use an object that is low to the ground to get your dog used to the concept of climbing.
- Build trust: Reward your dog generously to help him become comfortable with higher objects.
- Keep it safe: Make sure the object is stable and doesn't pose a risk to your dog.
