A fly in the kitchen, a swarm of flies above the muck heap, horseflies driving your horse mad or a wasps' nest by the shed: they are all flying insects, but each calls for a different approach. This collection contains traps, lamps, protective clothing and products against flies, horseflies, wasps, mosquitoes and moths, from brands such as Knock Pest, PestWest, Insect-O-Cutor, Resoluut and Sticky Trap.

Trapping, proofing or controlling

Traps are the simplest and work without chemicals. Sticky strips and bait traps are in fly traps & strips; for indoor spaces such as a canteen, milking parlour or kitchen, there are electric fly killers with UV light. For horses there are fly masks, browbands and zebra-print fly rugs that shield the animal itself. Anyone approaching a wasps' nest or removing bees from a cavity wall wears a wasp or beekeeper's jacket, trousers and gloves. Cavity wall grilles such as SpouwSafe keep insects out of the cavity.

Insecticides, larvicides and foggers are biocides. Only use them according to the label, with the right protection and not in places where the label prohibits it, such as directly on feed or drinking water.

Straight to a specific trap

For horses and cattle at pasture, horsefly traps are in horsefly traps. Traps that work in a stable with many flies are in fly traps for the stable, and bait traps for wasps in wasp traps.

Points to note

  • Bait traps smell strongly; hang them outside and not next to a door or window.
  • In spring, wasps are useful as predators of other insects. Only set traps once they are really causing a nuisance.
  • A fly trap reduces the number of flies, but clearing up manure and feed residues remains the basis.

Other pests are in crawling insects and rats & mice; for spraying, use equipment from spraying equipment. The overview is under pest control.

Frequently asked questions

What helps against horseflies on horses?
A horsefly trap in the field catches horseflies that are attracted to large, dark and warm shapes. A fly rug and fly mask protect the horse itself.

How do I keep flies in the stable under control?
Start by limiting manure and wet patches. Add sticky rolls or fly ribbons along the ceiling, and possibly bait traps outside the stable.

Can I remove a wasps' nest myself?
You can, but it is risky. Wear protective clothing and only use a product according to the label. For a nest in an awkward spot, call in a pest controller.
