How to Teach Your Dog to 'Hug'
- Start with “Paw Giving”: Make sure your dog already understands how to offer his paw on command.
- Use a treat: Hold a treat in your hand and encourage your dog to place their paw on your arm. You can start by gently guiding their paw.
- Give the command: Say "Hug" or "Hug" as you place his paw on your arm. Reward him immediately after he displays the correct behavior.
- Practice the pose: Encourage your dog to rest his paw on your arm for a few seconds and reward him generously.
- Reward only on command: Make sure you only reward your dog when he puts his paw on your arm after you give the command.
- Refine the trick: Repeat the process until your dog performs the trick independently on command.
