Electric fence energisers

The energiser is the heart of every electric fence: it sends a pulse through the conductor at short intervals. We stock the ZoneGuard Energizer Pro range, in versions for the mains socket, for a separate battery and with a solar panel, for anything from a small pony paddock to several hectares of grassland.

Power source first, then output

The most important choice is where the power comes from. A mains energiser needs the least maintenance: plug it in and it keeps working, as long as there is a socket near the field. If your field is further away, choose a battery energiser or a solar energiser, where the solar panel recharges the battery. Only then do you look at the range. ZoneGuard states this in kilometres: the mains Energizer Pro comes in 12, 50, 80 and 160 km, the Battery Energizer Pro in 10 km and the Solar-Fence Energizer Pro in 6 and 20 km.

How do you read the stated range?

The number of kilometres applies under favourable conditions: a single wire, dry insulators and no grass against the conductor. So when choosing, add up the total length of all lines, which for three lines of tape around a field with a 400-metre perimeter is already 1.2 km. Netting, wet vegetation and many joins need extra reserve. So preferably choose a step heavier than your length strictly requires, especially for sheep with thick wool or animals that test the fence.

Quickly to the right group

Without a socket: solar or battery energisers

Energisers up to 20 km for a pony or small paddock

Powerful energisers from 50 km for large fields

Points to note when installing

An energiser never works better than its earthing. Place the earth rods in ground that does not dry out and keep them away from the earthing of your house or stable. Connect only one energiser per fence and do not put batteries directly on wet ground. For a small field with a few lines of tape, an energiser from the up-to-20 km group is often enough; if you have no socket, choose solar or battery.

Can a solar energiser also be used in winter?
Yes, but with less sunlight the panel recharges the battery more slowly. Check the voltage on the line more often in the dark months.

Can I connect two energisers to one fence?
No. Two energisers on the same conductor can interfere with each other and are unsafe. If you want more power, choose a heavier energiser.
